Girl 64 days sleeping disorder

On Nov. 19, The Inquisitr reported that Nicole Delien of Pennsylvania actually has “Sleeping Beauty Disorder.” Yes, such a thing does exist. In medical terms, it is called Kleine-Levin Syndrome and it’s described below.
“The disorder strikes adolescents primarily. At the onset of an episode the patient becomes progressively drowsy and sleeps for most of the day and night (hypersomnolence), waking only to eat or go to the bathroom. When awake, the patient’s whole demeanor is changed,
often appearing ‘spacey’ or childlike” (via KLSFoundation.org).
The girl that slept for 64 days wasn’t diagnosed for two years after her first long sleep. While many teens require a lot of sleep, it was clear that something was wrong with Delien. Her mom said that it is really upsetting, mainly because her daughter misses out on holidays. She recalled one year when Nicole slept from Thanksgiving through New Year’s, missing Christmas.
Unfortunately, Nicole has not been cured from the disease. Her doctors have given her a combination of medications that help her condition, but she still has episodes. The drugs that she is taking are used to treat epilepsy and narcolepsy. She is said to only have 2 episodes a year now—but at 30-60 days a pop, this still isn’t a way to live life.
The girl who slept for 64 days and her family are trying to raise awareness about the rare disorder and they desperately hope for a cure.
