Wedding 25,000 guests, A Jewish wedding between the successor of a the Chief Rabbi of Belz
Rebbe community and a member of Belz Rebbe attracted 25,000 guests in a
ceremony where the bride is not allowed to show her face during the
entire wedding.
The groom was 18-year-old Shalom Rokeach, the grandson of the Chief Rabbi of the Hasidic Belz Rebbe community. Being the only male grandchild, Rokeach is expected to succeed his grandfather as leader of Belz Rebbe. The bride was 19-year-old Hannah Batya Penet, who is also a member of
Belz Rebbe. The wedding lasted until dawn.
If the groom places it over her face himself, it shows he values her for more than just her beauty and also allows the bride to avoid curious stares from guests during the wedding ceremony.

Belz Rebbe has its roots in a 14th century
Polish town of the same name which was officially founded in 1817, and
currently includes about 7,000 families around the world.
Hannah
wore a traditional white wedding dress made of lace encrusted with
pearls and crystals. She was led into the ceremony by female relatives
but wore a heavy veil throughout the ceremony. The wedding took place in
Jerusalem on Tuesday, May 21. The heavy veil pays tribute to biblical
stories of Rebecca (Genesis 25:65) and Leah (Genesis 29:25). According
to the bible, when Rebecca first saw the man she was to marry, she “took
her veil and covered herself”; Leah wore a veil so heavy that her
groom, Jacob, couldn’t see her face—he thought he was marrying her
sister, Rachel, whom he loved. If the groom places it over her face himself, it shows he values her for more than just her beauty and also allows the bride to avoid curious stares from guests during the wedding ceremony.
